FNU Signs a Cooperation Framework Agreement with Fuzhou City on the Establishment of the Straits Laboratory

On March 31, the signing ceremony of the cooperation framework agreement on the establishment of the Straits Laboratory between Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government and FNU was held in Fuzhou. Zhou Lianqing, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Lin Baojin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, attended the event and had an informal discussion with Huang Wei, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his delegation. Chen Qiuli, director-general of Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology, You Mengjun, mayor of Fuzhou, Zhang Zhong, member of the standing committee and secretary-general of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, Lin Zhonglin, vice mayor of Fuzhou, members of Huang Wei’s team, Luo Deping, academician of Singapore Academy of Sciences, Li Baoyin, Wang Changping and Chen Xiaohong, leaders of FNU, and Ren Minghui, professor of FNU, also attended the signing ceremony and the discussion.

According to the cooperation agreement, the Straits Laboratory will aim at the strategic goal of building a national laboratory, and with the ideas of “integrating advantages, leading by innovation, and expanding globally, will focus on leading industries and emerging industries of strategic importance in Fujian province and Fuzhou city. It takes flexible electronics, a highly integrated, interdisciplinary and subversive discipline, as its core, and revolves around the research directions including organic electronics, plastic electronics, printing electronics, energy electronics, bio-electronics, nanoelectronics. Through the integration of relevant policies and resources of government, university and enterprise, it will gather a group of top researchers and build a top research and development team to conduct strategic, forward-looking, basic and comprehensive scientific and technological innovation activities, strive to solve major scientific problems, make breakthroughs in key core technologies, and lead efforts to enhance the capacity for independent innovation and industrial development in such areas as electronic information, new energy, new materials, and health care.

Huang Wei said that Fujian Province and Fuzhou City have attached great importance to scientific and technological innovation, created a good environment and provided an important guarantee for the establishment of the Straits Laboratory. He also said that he will lead his team to accelerate the strategic shift of their work focus to Fujian and Fuzhou and that, relying on the Institute of Flexible Electronics (Future Science and Technology) of FNU, they will immediately start the construction of the Straits Laboratory with flexible electronics as the core field and strive to make Fujian and Fuzhou become Carbon Valley of China”.
