FNU Co-hosts the Symposium on Higher Education Serving High-quality Development of Culture and Tourism Economy

From December 4th to 5th, the symposium on higher education serving high-quality development of culture and tourism economy, jointly hosted by the Education and Training Branch of Tourism Association of Fujian Province, the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Tourism of Universities in Fujian Province and FNU, and organized by Sanming University, was held in Sanming City. Wang Yang, deputy director-general of the Education Department of Fujian Province, Huang Wenhua, director of the Division of Science, Technology and Informatization, Zhang Juncheng, vice president of Sanming University, Hong Yishu, vice president of Tourism Association of Fujian Province and Tu Rong, vice president of FNU, attended the event. The attendees also included more than 70 heads of tourism and representatives of MTA practice bases from nearly 30 universities, such as Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Minnan Normal University, Quanzhou Normal University, Minjiang University, Putian University, Longyan University, Wuyi University, Ningde Normal University, Fujian Business University, Xiamen Huatian International Vocation Institute and FNU.

Wang Yang pointed out that holding the symposium is an important move for in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 11th Fujian Provincial Party Congress. He emphasized that colleges and universities are the gathering places of high-quality talents and sources of innovative development, and play an important leading and driving role in promoting the high-quality development of culture and tourism economy. Colleges and universities should combine their own defined roles and characteristics of school running with the actual needs of making culture and tourism economy in Fujian bigger, better and stronger, keep to the right direction, focus on talent cultivation and strengthen multi-party coordination to boost the high-quality development of culture and tourism economy, Wang said.

Tu Rong introduced the great progress made by College of Tourism of FNU in such areas as discipline development, talent cultivation, scientific research and social services. He said that the 11th Fujian Provincial Party Congress, which has just been concluded, calls for bigger, better and stronger culture and tourism economy. As an important combination of the first productive force of science and technology, the first resource of talent and the first driving force of innovation, colleges and universities will certainly have a great potential and must make a big difference in building a strong cultural province and a province of across-the-board eco-tourism and serving the high-quality development of local culture and tourism economy.

The symposium extensively discussed the Action Plan for Higher Education Serving High-quality Development of Culture and Tourism Economy drafted by the Education Department of Fujian Province. Centering on the importance of colleges and universities as the source of culture and tourism talents and innovation as well as the implementation of the four major action plans of talent cultivation, innovative development, service improvement and open exchanges of culture and tourism, the participants conducted exchanges and reached broad consensus on such issues as how to promote the integration of disciplines in colleges and universities, improve vocational education quality, build a network for culture and tourism talent cultivation, strengthen the construction of culture and tourism innovation carriers, promote scientific and technological research and development and the application of research outcomes, deepen the integration of culture and tourism industry and education, advance the coordinated utilization of social resources, strengthen the cultural inheritance and innovation, enhance the function of think-tanks in colleges and universities and strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation.

During the symposium, FNU also held the signing and plaque-awarding ceremonies of the practice bases for MTA Education Center of FNU with Wanshouyan National Archaeological Site Park and Castanopsis Kawakamii National Forest Park respectively.
